Autonomous cars can improve safety, helping solve issues like drunk driving and distracted driving. These cars also expand transportation options to a broader range of the population in a more efficient and safer manner and help relieve congestion. This paper provides a statistical framework to study whether—and by how much—an autonomous car drives better than a human being.
