In general, medical costs for patients with chronic medical and comorbid mental health/substance use (MH/SU) disorder conditions are two to three times higher on average compared to those who do not have comorbid MH/SU conditions. This study assesses the prevalence and costs associated with comorbid chronic medical conditions among individuals with diagnosed opioid use disorder (OUD) and opioid super-users without diagnosed OUD.
