This article provides a snapshot of the financial performance of the many new medical professional liability (MPL) programs that were spawned in the wake of the recent MPL coverage crisis. The analysis compares the performance of 154 start-ups with that of their established MPL peers. As a whole, the start-ups are well capitalized and have posted profitable operating results. However, several challenges still lie ahead.
