Reserve takedowns could signal trouble for medical professional liability insurers

Current conditions in the medical professional liability (MPL) insurance market echo those that were present after the steep rate increases in the mid- to late 1980s. The large loss reserve takedowns in recent years are an indication that the sweet spot that MPL insurers are now enjoying may be coming to an end.
