Government law changes the face of the student loan market

The education component of the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act, passed in March 2010, calls for the elimination of the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) and will transfer all federally funded student loans to the William D. Ford Federal Direct Student Loan Program (FDSLP). The shift will bring great change to the student loan market, and it is still unclear how FFELP-originating companies will adapt to the new system.
