The elevated level of opioid prescriptions continues to be a serious issue in the United States, and prescribing practices are a major contributing factor to the country’s opioid epidemic.

This paper examines the prescription patterns among both commercially insured patients with diagnosed opioid use disorder and non-diagnosed “super-users” and why many stakeholders are beginning to address this issue.
