Actuarial expertise is important when working with an actuary but is not the only criteria that should be considered. It is critical for the actuary to have business sense and the ability to step back from textbook calculations, and to work with the understanding that any material change in actuarial assumptions and resulting estimates may affect the bottom line of a company.
