Current Responsibility

James leads the development of the Advanced Analytics and Data Solutions Practice at Milliman, focusing on addressing clients’ rapidly emerging big data, data science, machine learning, and advanced analytical needs. He joined the firm in early 2016.

The Advanced Analytics Practice works directly with clients and supports other Milliman practices as engagements often require addressing the immediate analytical issue as well as the broader challenges of rapidly accelerating digital disruption. Creating the right data and analytic strategy is necessary for a rapidly changing environment driven by:

  • Evolution in customer preference for digital engagement
  • Increasing availability of Internet of Things (IoT) data
  • Growth in cloud computing capabilities
  • Advances in Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence

James has significant experience in advanced analytics and data solutions. Prior to joining Milliman, he was senior vice president, retail consulting & analytics with The Nielsen Company. He created and grew that practice, composed of consultants and data scientists who focused on addressing client needs requiring statistical modeling, data mining, and custom analytics on first party, Nielsen, and other big data assets.

His particular expertise is in consumer behavioral data and time-series analytics. James led custom BI solution development and was deeply involved in a Hadoop Platform build program.

Previous consulting and advisory experience includes McKinsey and BASES, a new product forecasting firm. James holds certification in Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing from the Data Warehousing Institute. He is a co-holder of a U.S. Patent for a Time Series Analytic on consumer behavioral data.
